Purpose

The Center for Personal Development supports people in their personal and professional development.  Our ultimate purpose is to provide the opportunity, tools, knowledge & perspectives for people to live fabulous lives.

About The Center for Personal Development

CPD is the creation of life coaches Monica Leggett and Charlie Chase.

Sharing a common passion for people and a profound interest in interpersonal relationships, we decided to pool our resources and design an organization which could make available a large number of developmental programs to a wide array of individuals with unique needs and circumstances.

CPD Programs

We begin this venture by rolling out a series of courses and programs based on the PeopleMapTM system of interpersonal dynamics and communication.  Monica and Charlie have both trained under E. Michael Lillibridge, Ph.D., the founder of the PeopleMapTM system.  We are the first, and as yet, the only sanctioned PeopleMapTM trainers in the state of Connecticut.  (See side-bar to the right for more information about PeopleMapTM.)

Coaching

In addition to a variety of programs, The Center for Personal Development offers one-on-one personal coaching and executive coaching.  We work with clients in-person and over the phone.

Coaching creates miracles.  A coach is not a consultant, nor an expert in the client's life or business.  A coach is not there to be a friend.  A coach does not tell the client what to do, and rarely offers advice.  What the coach does do is to be honest and straight, listen intently, ask probing questions, and provoke change.  A coach encourages clients to dream big, to go for what they really want, and to have the client transform the game they're playing.  While the topic is always the client's life and dreams, the coach will challenge clients to:

  • take responsibility for their lives
  • seek to be cause, rather than "because" (seeking excuses)
  • live created lives, lives by design
  • distinguish fact from story and interpretation, and replace dis-empowering interpretations with empowering ones
  • set goals based on their dreams, not on their disempowering stories of themselves
  • commit to their goals and dreams
  • do what they say they will do

If you are seeking change, if you sense that there is a whole, new level you could be playing at, if you recognize how powerful and effective an impartial, committed and highly trained coach can be, if you are ready to roll up your sleeves and get to work, then contact us (below) for a free coaching session.  And come ready to commit to a new life, a life worth living.  Commitment is the doorway to change.

The PeopleMapTM System

In our work with individuals, couples, businesses and organizations, the Center for Personal Development utilizes the PeopleMapTM system to enhance interpersonal effectiveness.

The PeopleMapTM system was developed by a pair of Florida Ph.D. psychologists, E. Michael Lillibridge and Andrew Mathis.  CPD has chosen the PeopleMapTM system over other alternatives because it is simple, straight-forward and intuitive, and has a very high degree of accuracy.  This means that people learn the system faster, more completely, and retain the information longer.

But most importantly, because participants grasp the PeopleMapTM concepts so well, they are able to apply the concepts in real life with their family members and friends, associates, co-workers, supervisors, employees, customers and suppliers.

In fact, a survey of over 500 people from nine different organizations showed an average increase in their interpersonal skills effectiveness of 70% from using the PeopleMapTM system.

Over 150,000 people have completed a PeopleMapTM questionnaire and gone through a PeopleMapTM program.

Relationships are at the core of nearly all human endeavor.  Doesn't it make sense to understand others and to become as effective as possible in dealing with them?  We consider the PeopleMapTM series part of the CPD core curriculum because of its broad application and potential impact to every area of our lives.
